Leaning Into Ethical Mitigation

Problems, conflicts and crisis will arise in life, personally and professionally. Sometimes it will have been preventable and sometimes not, yet regardless of whether it was or not, what’s vitally important to learn and understand is that mitigation — and the willingness to engage in it, ethically — is not only smart, it’s critical to protect or restore trust and reputation.

It’s unfortunate and shocking at times how unwilling that people and organizations can be when it comes to wanting to promptly, ethically and responsibly mitigate and do so skillfully and thoroughly.

Too many people will manufacture and tell themselves inaccurate or false stories about why it is not necessary. They dismiss or arrogantly reject the (moral) need to respond in an honorable, respectful, intelligent manner.

What caliber of risk management to one’s personal and professional well-being do you think that thinking and action (or inaction) is conducting?

It can be objectively, reasonably argued that approach is narrow-minded and dangerous. That is the polite way to express it. At worst, it can be argued that is a form of malpractice response to matters of trust, conflict, relationship and risk management.

Dismissiveness or arrogance are dangerous and costly, not the types of risks that intelligent, successful people should be assuming or ones that you would suspect that people of their accomplishments would downplay.

What you would likely instead conclude would be that they are humble and always seeking to learn, even if it makes them question and doubt the validity and wisdom of their current confidence.

Knowing what to do — or learning from a trusted professional — to unquestionably, effectively mitigate risks is administering masterful attention to detail for the moment while often also dutifully tending to the big picture.

It is simultaneously showing oneself as ethically-focused, impressively responsible and trustworthy (which comes to multiple benefits).

Your future self will thank you, if you look back and remember when you had different choices to make and you chose correctly. Guaranteed.
